Questions we hear most.
- Who does KEIS serve?
- Children from birth to age 3 who have a developmental delay, a diagnosed condition with a high probability of delay, or an established risk condition. Services are available regardless of family income.
- Is there a cost to families?
- Evaluation, eligibility, service coordination, and IFSP development are at no cost. Other services use a sliding Family Share fee based on income and family size — and private insurance or Medicaid is billed first when available.
- Where do services happen?
- In the child's natural environment — typically the family home, but also childcare settings and community spaces where the child spends their day.
- How do I refer a child?
- Anyone — parent, doctor, childcare provider, or family member — can refer. Use the Refer a Child form on this site or call our office at 606.929.9155.
- What credentials do I need to work with KEIS?
- Each discipline (IECE, OT, PT, SLP) follows the personnel qualifications in 902 KAR 30:150. New providers complete KEIS credentialing through the Cabinet for Health and Family Services — we'll walk you through it.
- Is this employment or contract work?
- Most KEIS providers work as independent contractors with flexible caseloads, billing through the state system. Reach out and we'll explain the options that fit your situation.
- What region does the NE Kentucky office cover?
- We serve the FIVCO and Gateway districts — Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup, Lawrence, Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, and Rowan counties.
